I had a few free minutes and called the CMP. There was a thread here in Sep or so asking about the status of the 1911s. Better for them if they're all destroyed and we have to buy new ones.
Maybe with a Trump administration we'll see the 1911s and the M9s released to CMP.Īll that said, the gun manufacturing industry would actually not like this very much, as it puts more guns on the market that were already purchased once.
Update: Contacted my representative and senator. You let them know that's what you want to see. Can't hurt to try, and doubt you'll see them do it otherwise unless Our best bet if you wish to see those 1911's, M9's or any other civilian legal firearms is to contact your senators and representatives and ask them toĬontact Robert Speer or Vincent Viola and request they sign the surplus over to CMP. I also have no idea when Vincent Viola will/might be affirmed as SoA. The current acting SoA is Robert Speer, don't know to much about him. Although I thank him for his service, I don't think he was very gun-friendly. The past SoA was Eric Fanning who was the first openly gay men overseeing a branch of the military. With the Houses provision on the subject in the 2017 NDAA. I'm assuming the plan to transfer the 1911's is still open to debate, and survived John McCains attempt to get rid of them. CMP director says that the Secretary of the Army must sign off on the transfer of the guns to CMP.
